About the Czech Frosty
The Czech Frosty (aka Schwarzgrannen or Czech Black-Haired) are a medium sized rabbit that originated in the Czech Republic beginning in the early 1950's but was accepted by the German standard in 1991 and accepted into the European standard in 1995. If all goes well, they will be accepted into the American Rabbit Breeders Association in 2019 at the earliest.
The breed was slow to start in the beginning, since being a genetic experiment first and a show rabbit later. Luckily the breed has then since become more popular, really starting in the early 2000's.
Czech Frosties were first imported in the United States by Don Havlicek in November of 2013 with the first US born litter born in January of 2014. The breed is now found in a total of 23 states from Washington to Maine, California to Texas and over to Florida.
The breed is a medium cylindrical breed that is Frosty (also called Ermine or Frosted Pearl) in color. They are described as a 2L bottle with legs. The color is genetically the same as Chinchilla except they are ee, instead of E_. The breed averages around 7.5lbs and are thick enough to be dual purpose for both show and meat. The breed averages 4-8 kits per litter.
Please note that in order to buy a Czech Frosty, you must be a member of the breed club (https://www.facebook.com/groups/188385231350568/) and sign a contract. We abide by all breed club rules and regulations.
